For me, the only truly essential thing is Facebook ads. Newsletters and social media help, but they're not as necessary as ads. That's what keeps my business turning.

As somebody who didn’t even run ads for books for years, and relied on my mailing list, this is so interesting for me. I’m trying to get ads working for me during this show b/c I would sure love if they were that essential to my business.

I started years ago, so they're second nature to me at this point. I'm also incredibly introverted so I prefer this approach to social media, which I find draining. I'm only now getting a handle on my newsletter because it's been a bit like the red-headed step child of my author business.

Okay, so I have to ask. Do you do branding ads along with sales/traffic ads? Bc 99% of authors I talk to don't do branding ads, and I think it's a huge opportunity for people who don't do them, but I don't know enough authors who use them to know whether I'm onto something or crazy.

How do you define branding ads? I do ads that retarget people who interact with my profile that talk about me, my story, etc.

No, not those. Video views ads or something similar where you are just maybe talking to camera or talking about your books, or anything to just get people to know you and not sell them something.

That’s kind of what I do so people get to know me but they’re very low spend comparitive to my other ads. It’s mostly so people feel comfortable purchasing from my website knowing I’m a real person.
